An Interdenominational Service for Memorial Day

Interdenominational Memorial Day Service at St. John's-Grace returns as COVID wanes

After a three year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, St. John’s-Grace in Buffalo is now in the process of planning its fifteenth Interdenominational Service for Memorial Day, to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30. The service is open to all.

The purpose of this celebration is to give real religious solemnity to Memorial Day, a day of remembrance too often reduced to shopping and picnics. The service honors those who have served in our military, dedicating themselves to our American values of freedom, equality, justice and community, and especially those who have given their lives for these values. Those attending are reminded that our obligation to them is to embrace these same values in our own lives, and that these values are reflected in the Way of Jesus Christ in which we are called to walk – the way of compassion, justice, forgiveness and peace.

As it has been each year, this will be an interdenominational service consisting of remembering and praying, singing hymns, listening to readings, songs and preaching. The service concludes with singing of Amazing Grace outdoors at the Bidwell Parkway War Memorial.

For the safety of the many veterans and seniors attending, masks and social distancing will be required.
