The Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday evening at 8:00, with a new approach, this year, to the last of Lent and a beginning glimpse of the Easter celebration: the lighting of the New Fire and the Paschal Candle, an intimate candlelight service in the chancel in a monastic manner, with psalms chanted in plainsong (“gregorian chant”), scripture readings recounting the mythic history of salvation, a mysterious noise and the first word of a resurrection.
